About This Lesson
This story is told by Bishop Odor (William the Conqueror's half brother) and imagines the scene when he commissioned the making of the Bayeux Tapestry. This resource has a series of key questions for teachers to ask and lends itself to a discussion on the nature of conflict resolution and the reliability of any history written by the winning side. It also allows children to examine the idea of a ‘holy’ war and the thorny question as to whether God really favours one side over another. The song provided helps set the scene and offers another way of presenting information about 1066.
Interesting resource. The discussion questions are good. I wonder if the students will be required to write a response or essay once the discussion is complete?
