About This Lesson

Welcome to the study of the ecosystem!  This two week unit plan will take your students through lessons that will strengthen their understanding of carrying capacity, biodiversity, factors affecting biodiversity, conserving biodiversity, how humans play a role in biodiversity, and a real world experiences through a national forest.  You will find the unit plan contains many fun projects that will want the students desiring to learn more.  There are many crosscutting concepts within the lessons utilizing art, writing, mathematics, data analysis, and public speaking.  These plans contain differential learning strategies to make sure every student can increase their knowledge of the ecosystem.  Throughout the daily lessons students have the opportunity to partake in student driven learning, where they will be responsible for directing the learning.  Many of the lessons contain collaboration activities that will keep the students engaged in learning.  Have a great time exploring our ecosystem!

Students know how to analyze changes in an ecosystem resulting from changes in climate, human activity, introduction of nonnative species, or changes in population size.
Create a computational simulation to illustrate the relationships among management of natural resources, the sustainability of human populations, and biodiversity.
