About This Lesson
By the 2nd grade students are very familiar with characters in fictional stories and how the different characters sound when they are reading out loud or in their head. They will come to understand that non-fiction texts require that they start using an explaining voice to both comprehend the text and have others learn with them.
This is an important lesson that we don't stop to think about teaching.
