About This Lesson

Students will learn about electric DC circuits and listen to a female engineer explain how she incorporates LEDs into fashion and clothing. Students will start by creating a basic circuit from a battery, two pieces of wire, and an LED and then modify this circuit so that they can turn it on and off using fasteners like buttons, zippers, laces, hooks, and buckles. Switches, current, polarity, fashion, art, and technology combine in this STEAM and wearable-tech activity. Optional video explaining the science behind fabric quality testing included.
