About This Lesson

While exploring transformations; some interesting things were discovered about combining transformations. To continue this idea; these cards were created in order to help them think about the combinations further. Put students into groups and give them the pack of cards. (Print each page on a different color.) Get them to explore and conjecture further.

This is a nice set of questions which ask students to perform two transformations on a shape and then think about how it could be described in a single transformation. There are five questions and each one focuses on either rotations, reflections or translations. I think the point is that two rotations can be described as one rotation, two reflections as one reflection and so on. This is a nice idea for an activity and I like the idea that groups then peer assess by checking different colors. On the question sheets there is not space for students to perform the transformations so they will need to draw these out first. Thank you for sharing.

This is very well thought out and easily used in the classroom. Students gain so much conceptual understanding from this!
