About This Lesson

In this activity, the students will be able to see that by regrouping the figure into new groups that they are creating another name for the same fraction and with some prompting by the teacher they should see that all they have done is divide both the shaded figure and the entire figure by the same number (the size of the new group). It is useful to point out that you must be able to regroup both the entire figure and the shaded figure in order for the regrouping to work. In other words, both the numerator and the denominator must be divided by the same number. CCSS alignment: 4.NF.1

There are random fractions on the page. I'm not sure why they are there. They don't match the example given. I'm not sure if they are suppose to be else where.
