While I found some of the information in the lesson relative, the inclusion of denominators outside the 4th grade Common Core standards (e.g., 7ths) meant there would be a lot of editing needed to bring it up to code (so to speak). A quick note about the formative assessment that launches the lesson---if you omit the /8th/ denominator option in the problem that asks students to identify the fraction of the shaded pieces in the figure, it would increase the rigor (students would have to count the total number of pieces to determine the appropriate denominator) and more closely mirror the expectations of CCSS/PARCC. Of course I realize that a plethora of instruction follows the formative, but beginning with the end in mind is always best practices. Thank you for sharing.
