About This Lesson

This lesson connects to the third grade literacy unit on studying African communities. After reading the book GALIMOTO, students will understand the concept of recycling and using available resources.Students can work alone or in pairs in order to create a toy using recycled materials. Teachers can give the students any appropriate material to create a toy or even something more useful and necessary.See pictures of material suggested for immediate success.After this lesson, the teacher can have a discussion about using garbage to create art, "Garbage Art."
