About This Lesson
This activity asks groups of students to compare and contrast types of governments, economies, and families. The students will have guided conversations which anticipate the types of issues raised by the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry. The activity can be done in twenty to thirty minutes. The explanation usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes since some of the concepts are abstract or new to middle schoolers.
