About This Lesson
This activity has students analyze problems facing the Soviet Union in the 1980s (using graphs, charts, and summaries of protest movements against the USSR and the cost of its proxy wars). The second attachment called "Gorbachev Activity 2" has students try to create specific ways to achieve the policies of glasnost, detente, and perestroika by creating solutions on their own and then gathering other ideas from the rest of the class. They must finally write a speech, as Gorbachev, to the Soviet Union's citizens explaining these changes.
This really is a great lesson! Love the creative part of it. Thanks for sharing!
