About This Lesson

After a brief description of the social structure of ancient Rome, students will watch a short video and do a close read of a primary source document, an excerpt of “Rome at the end of the Punic Wars” by Polybius. The goal is for students to uncover the meaning themselves. The learning objectives include: 1.) To be able to describe the structure of government of the Roman Republic. 2.) To identify elements of the Roman Republic in modern democracy. Aligned to Common Core State Standards: RH.6-8.1, RH.6-8.2, RH.6-8.3, RH.6-8.4, RH.6-8.7, CCRA.W.2
