About This Lesson

Heat as Energy Transfer - Legends of Learning

In this series of games, your students will learn about the transfer of thermal energy. The Heat as Energy Transfer learning objective — based on NGSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research.

This lesson is accompanied by ten (10) standards-based science games and a teacher-crafted lesson plan, which can be found at the following link: www.legendsoflearning.com/learning-objectives/heat-as-energy-transfer/

Standards

Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents.
Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
Ask questions and predict outcomes about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide.
Apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer.
Plan an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by the temperature of the sample.
