About This Lesson

Students will complete various tasks of searching media, resources, and other activities to investigate, analyze, and explain the multiple cultural holidays around the world. Students will use what they have learned to compare and contrast the findings with their own personal experiences.

Standards

Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
Prepare a simple presentation of digital products and applications.
Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.
Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others.
Propose a solution to a problem or question based on an analysis of the data and critical thinking, individually and collaboratively.
Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.
Create a simple algorithm, individually and collaboratively, without using computers to complete the task (e.g., making a sandwich, getting ready for school).
Examine primary and secondary sources.
Identify celebrations and national holidays as a way of remembering and honoring the heroism and achievements of the people, events, and our nation's ethnic heritage.
Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
