About This Lesson

This is one of many lessons that I have uploaded on the rise of Hitler and Germany under his rule. All of the lessons can be taught together but each covers a topic so can also be picked up separately. This is a full PowerPoint lesson; ready to teach but you will want to adapt it / update it for your own context and any resources are also uploaded with it. This lesson covers how Hitler became the chancellor of Germany.

This resource is a good idea for students--analyzing various sources to discover why people would want Hitler to come into power/how he was able to come into power. However, the resources are not identified (what social studies textbook was used? What newspaper?) and some of the sources might not be accurate (slide #4's picture appears to actually be in the US and not Germany). Also, this is basic if you are using it for high school. You will want to make students do more critical thinking and less of "giving them" the answer; as is this won't be challenging enough to keep them engaged. The idea behind this resource is good and can be easily adapted for the common core if the sources were actual extracts from primary sources that students had to read and analyze and then write using the evidence from the primary sources.
