About This Lesson
The Do Now and Exit Ticket is the framework for how my students analyzed imperialism. The main question is "what was the primary motive for Europeans: Capitalism, racism, or nationalism?" So the Do Now defines those terms and asks students to brainstorm how each term would motivate one nation to invade and conquer another. The China documents include a map, a primary source, and a secondary source, and the task for students is to annotate where they see evidence of capitalism, racism, and nationalism as causes of imperialism.
