About This Lesson
A PowerPoint providing an overview and background to Shakespeare's sonnets. Then; an activity (to be done in groups or on one's own depending on ability range) that lets students write their own sonnet. I've given them a Shakespearian theme; numbered the lines and written a first line to get them going. I suggest they don't write it in Shakespearian language (thee thou etc) but that they DO stick the sonnet form - iambic pentameter/ rhyme scheme. Works really well- helps them to understand the form AND appreciate how good Shakespeare actually is
The initial Power Point is incredibly detailed and talks students' through the Controlled Assessment as well as the sonnet form. I like the end task where students are asked to create their own Shakespearean sonnet to test their understanding of the lesson content. Might need adapting to suit certain exam boards. Thanks for sharing this resource.
