About This Lesson

This Unit plan is designed to introduce High School students to the three branches of government. This is meant for 11-12th grade students.  It is designed around a student centered approach of research and creating knowledge through projects and presentations. The unit plan also has traditional instruction methods in the form of lectures each day.  The teacher will teach material through lecture at the beginning of class. Students should get comfortable with discussion as they will be a big part of every lesson. The unit plan follows a structure of lecture, discussion, and finally activity.   The Unit is broken down into four sections. The first two sections are 3 days. The third section which deals with the judicial branch is only 2 days. The last section is two days one for review and the other day for the Unit test. Quizzes, notebook checks and discussions will be used as formative assessments to see how much students understand. Each section of the unit is designed with a main lecture and group discussion/activity and a quiz.  All three main sections are divided like this except the Judicial Branch section.
