About This Lesson

Set of method cards and supporting PowerPoint for an investigation: behavior of saliva is compared with those for known sample of amylase to demonstrate that saliva contains amylase. Discussion of controls. Because the investigation requires 4 separate experiments to be run; the class needs to be divided into teams; each team carrying out one experiment: a full picture of what the results mean can only be arrived at when the class results are pooled - modeling how professional scientists need to work in teams and communicate their ideas and results.

This is a really good activity. I like the organisation of the practical with the students organized in teams, and the links to HSW - and it has a comprehensive set of instructions and resources included. Well worth a look (the only thing missing is a set of differentiated learning objectives but you easily add your own!)

Excellent for small group. Allows students to focus on the investigation of Saliva. Take a peek.
