About This Lesson

This handout briefly explains how James I viewed himself in relation to Parliament.What follows is a speech he made to Parliament in 1609 along with a task for students to identify and summarize James I's arguments for why he should be allowed to rule on his own, without Parliament. And also to summarize the three things Parliament should avoid.
