About This Lesson

This lesson exposes students to the significance of the sword guard in Japanese historical culture. By closely studying the Sword Guard of Bamboo and Tiger, students will better understand the importance of the holes, naturalistic imagery, circular design, and the difference between function and dec More…oration. They will then create their own sword guard design using an embossing technique and aluminum foil. Aligned to: RL.11.4 , RL.12.4
