This is a great investigation which you could use when studying number or at the start of a unit on expressions and proof. The teachers notes on the webpage are very detailed and explain how you could run the investigation with a class. This activity is differentiated by outcome, some students will be able to explain the pattern whereas some may be able to prove it using algebra. Thank you for sharing.

This resource could be used for algebraic expressions and extension to proofs.
