About This Lesson

First-hand accounts help students to connect to 9/11. There are several common themes in the stories of first responders so students can undertake a thematic analysis. Each of the first-hand accounts in the book, "We’re Not Leaving", by Dr. Benjamin J. Luft, show these commonalities as well as explore the rich array of unique individual experiences that allow the reader to gain a fuller understanding of what happened for the responders on that day and the weeks, months and years afterwards.
