About This Lesson

Lesson on Book Revision

An author may write an entire book in only one month, but the real work starts after the book is written. This work is called revision, and revising a book may take ten times longer than it took to write it.

During the revision process the author will read the book, dozens of times, and look for improvements. Every chapter, paragraph, sentence and word is analyzed and changes made. Changes create the need for more changes so a single item may be revised dozens of times in the quest to perfect the writing. During the revision process, the author may re-write, move or even delete entire chapters.

This lesson engages students in the thought process and writing of book revisions by an author.
