About This Lesson

Use our Supreme Court Nominations lesson plan to teach the fundamentals of nominations and help students identify both the political and nonpolitical elements of the nomination and confirmation processes for U.S. Supreme Court justices.

The lesson plan includes a Discussion Cards Activity to help you facilitate a thoughtful conversation and allow students to form their own opinions on questions, such as:

How does the nomination and confirmation process let the executive and legislative branches “check” the judicial branch?

If you could make one change to the nomination process, what would it be?
