Those pupils who feel the need to count one by one will need to do some more 'Show me' activities with a bead frame. While others practise writing down the numerals for each slide, they could try matching the given number on their bead frame. Only when children can recognise these numbers at a glance will they be able to use number lines, partition number symbols, and write equations with understanding.
