About This Lesson

The presidential debates have been an important part of the U.S. election process for decades, but how much do they really influence voters? In this lesson, students will watch video clips from PBS NewsHour’s “Debating Our Destiny” with Jim Lehrer, which includes famous debate moments as well as interviews with the candidates themselves.Then students will complete a debate scorecard for one the Election 2016 presidential debates and share their thoughts on how the candidates did.

Although this resource is out

Although this resource is out of date (2016 Presidential Debate Scorecard) it can be edited and extended for future presidential debates. It would be good to include possible hooks for students on a subject that may seem out of touch for them. Thanks for include all handouts!
