About This Lesson

This is a 2-week Unit Plan on Musical Improvisation.  There are 5 different lessons, each with a day of assessment.  The focus is on musical improvisation in American styles such as Jazz and Blues, but there are non-western styles introduced in conjunction such as West African Djembe playing and Indian and Middle Eastern Ragas and Maqams.  Hopefully the students will learn a wide variety of improvisation techniques in order to aid them in the development of a real-world professional skill.  Also, this will hopefully allow the students to gain a greater appreciation of improvised music and music in general.
