About This Lesson

In this lesson, students get introduced to Mandela’s story and life work. They examine how his drive was shaped by some of the same values that drive UNICEF’s work: a commitment to human rights and to education. Finally, they research evidence from the news regarding the state of education in their district, county, or state to determine the ways children’s international right to an education is being protected locally, and the ways it may need better protection.
