About This Lesson

Career Girls Empowerment Lesson Video Series:
Overcoming Obstacles (2:52 sec)

Have you ever faced an obstacle, or challenge? Sometimes obstacles may seem overwhelming, or make you feel nervous. Role models in this video share tips for overcoming obstacles and even learning from them.

Everybody faces obstacles in their life – some are easy to overcome, but others are more difficult. Understanding how to deal with obstacles can make them less overwhelming. Role models in this video share advice you can use every day to take on whatever obstacles come your way.

Use the Resources here to learn more about how you can approach obstacles, and even keep some of them from happening at all.

Empowerment Lesson Video:Watch this short video as a jumping-off point for in-depth learning experiences using the resources below.

Fun Page Activity: Sometimes obstacles are all in the way you think about something. Practice turning limiting thoughts like "I might make a mistake" into empowering messages to yourself. (Everyone makes mistakes, and I can learn from mine.)

Independent Learning Guide: Watch the "Overcoming Obstacles" video, then use this guide to turn the role models' suggestions into your own best advice. This all-purpose guide can also be used by educators, parents, and mentors to jumpstart a valuable discussion that helps students apply the role models' advice to their own experiences.

Classroom Lesson Plan: This step-by-step lesson plan is available to guide a more in-depth "before, during, and after" learning experience when viewing the video with students. This lesson plan is also suitable for use in after-school programs and other educational settings.
