About This Lesson

http://www.freemathvideos.com In this video tutorial I show you how to determine if a function is even, odd, or neither, algebraically and graphically. I do this by substituting (-x) in for x, and simplifying the function to see if I get f(x) or --f(x). If the result is f(x), and the graph of the function is symmetric with respect to the y-axis, it is even. If the result is --f(x), and the graph of the function is symmetric with respect to the origin, it is odd. If none of these are true, the function is neither. In this video I show students how to determine the intervals in which a function is increasing, decreasing or constant. We write our intervals by determining the x-values that make the output of the function increase, decrease or constant. I then provide the student with problems for them to complete on their own.
