This is a Teacher's Guide to Passage to Freedom: The Sugihara Story by Ken Mochizuki. Passage to Freedom is based on Hiroki Sugihara’s own words and includes an Afterword with information about the family’s story from 1940 to the present time. It is estimated that Chiune Sugihara saved the lives of 10,000 Jewish refugees. The educator's guide includes a book summary, background, discussion questions, vocabulary, literature circle roles, reader-response and other writing prompts, ELL support, and interdisciplinary activities.
