Unit Title or Topic:  Basketball

Overview of Unit:

In this unit the student’s objective is to learn and be able to demonstrate the proper way to dribble, shoot, and pass a basketball.  There are going to be on teamwork and cooperation lessons as well .The goal of instruction is for students to understand the concepts of these skills. The first three lessons will be teaching the proper way to dribble and pass.. Students will use these skills by playing “ Around the World, to properly pass a basketball. The next two lessons will incorporate both basketball strategies scaffolding and work in the stations. For lesson eight and nine I created a WebQuest assignment that students will work in the classroom. The technology will be used and students will be answering questions what they learned about basketball. The last lesson will be a full court dribble basketball tournament where students can put all the skills that have been taught together in competition form.  By the end of the ten day unit, the students will identify and engage in basketball to support achievement of personal fitness and activity goals by keeping a journal of fitness and participation through out the unit. Identify and describe positive and negative interactions of group members in physical activities such as leading, following, teamwork, and etiquette. Identify and apply game strategies to basketball on a formative assessment and at the end of two class periods. Participate in various basketball tactical situations and cooperatively participate with classmates while practicing and playing basketball during ten day unit and know how to explain and demonstrate the rules of basketball.
