About This Lesson

In this lesson, students watch a 14-minute film, "Among Giants" by Rainhouse Cinema, about an environmental activist who risks injury and incarceration to protect an ancient California redwood grove. Students will discuss the film and participate in classroom dialogues, exploring themes such as courage, empathy toward nature, and environmental justice. They will analyze the effectiveness of digital media and the choices made by the activist. Reflective writing prompts are also offered to demonstrate students' understanding of the story.
