Thank you for these. I think the quotes will help the kids to see these people as something other than boring equations and might even earn them some respect, who knows?
Hopefully induce more interest in how their world had got so technical
Hopefully these will spark the class's interest and get them doing some further research. Dusky, rather than complaining why dont you find some good quotes from female mathematicians? Ill happily add them to the collection...
It would be good to get quotes of some Indian, Chinese, African mathematicians?
I teach IB diploma and made a list of mathematicians connected to the syllabus. Students researched six each, or found mathematicians who were female, from their own country or contemporary, and presented their results as posters which now give me a resource for my other classes. There is plenty of information they can find beyond the dead white European males. I do like the quotes though. Thinking of putting Plato on my door, or will the students stay outside? Also plan to sneak into an English classroom and stick Kovalevskaya on the wall.
Maybe 10 at a time, and rotate them (not literally) Thank you
thanks the document can help students to know some of the great mathematicians and scientists in the world.
I will definitely inspire my students with these!!!!! Thank you very much-lovely idea
Thank you very much for these - they will be very useful
