About This Lesson

One of the heavier topics in Spanish colonization is the massive amounts of rape of indigenous women by European men. This can be seen in the current DNA make up of Latin American people. This handout leaves the directions up to you, since it can fit into your curriculum in various ways. My own directions focussed on how serious of an emergency this would have been to Native societies, but that's because of the theme of my unit. The documents are from a National Geographic article and Bartolome de las Casas' A Brief History of the Destruction of the Indies.
