About This Lesson

In this two-week unit, students build on previous knowledge of ratios and rates to formally define proportional relationships and the constant of proportionality. Students will explore how tables, graphs, and equations can represent proportional relationships. They will calculate unit rates in order to make comparisons to aid them in decision-making. Students will complete a performance task as a culminating activity that will ask them to use these newly acquired skills to solve a real-world problem.

Students will learn to find and use unit rates. They will identify and represent proportional relationships using tables, graphs, and equations. They will use rates and proportionality to solve real-world problems.
