About This Lesson

As part of my summer school class, I had students look at issues of policing from the perspectives of victims and also the police. This is a series of assignments designed to give students an understanding of how policing works for most officers (obviously the ones who use excessive force and kill civilians aren't included in this group). PTSD among police, de-escalation, use of deadly weapons, and the decline of violent and racist encounters are part of what students are exposed to. The packet consists of 5 assignments that require a lot of reading and annotating, asking questions, responding to claims and writing their own claims and counterclaims.
