About This Lesson

A video presentation from the California Academy of Science: in 2008, a team of scientists warned that a large earthquake could hit Haiti. Local geologist, Carol Prentice, who was part of that team, discusses how they came to that conclusion and how the Bay Area could be next.

The video is good for students as an introduction to the content of earthquake prediction. I would also suggest tagging it for science grades 6-12 in both Conduct Investigations and Plate Tectonics.

Lesson Plan suggestion: Students can watch the video then watch footage of the actual earthquake that happened in 2010 in Haiti.

Informative and very high interest videos. Great to introduce a topic or for use in a flipped classroom, very fast pasted some student may have problems processing information
