About This Lesson

I made this to teach children about shadows. The Peter Pan picture is a good discussion point (can your shadow move on its own? Can you touch your shadow etc.). The shared read also explores these ideas of a shadow; helping to draw out and challenge misconceptions. There is then a hyperlink to a fantastic Interactive resource which the children can use to explore shadows in terms of length and direction in the day and night; indoors and outdoors. The end of the PowerPoint features a Weakest Link style quiz which I usually use as a wrap up.

I really enjoyed the use of Peter Pan as the inspiration for the story. It creates an interest at the very beginning of the PowerPoint and the use of Weakest Link (the children might not remember this quiz) as a consolidation exercise is great fun!
