About This Lesson

This 6 minute audio story lesson teaches the communal importance of sharing. Anansi is the West African mythic trickster.  This resource of folklore teaches indigenous ethics deeply rooted in the cosmology of native West African tribes.  It provides an opportunity for social emotional learning though a non Euro-centric lens.

The lesson opens with a review of the Four Awesome Questions, an ethical framework from which to build SEL skills.  Is it True? Is it Fair, Will it build Friendships and Community? Will it be Helpful to those involved?  Following the audio story and accompanying text, there are open ended questions to facilitate an authentic dialogue concerning the Ethical and Social Emotional themes.   This resource supports multi-cultural differentiation.
