About This Lesson
Students will start by thinking of things that America borrows from other cultures, which will pave the way for the teacher to explain we borrow part of our language from the ancient Romans. After reviewing how the Roman Empire spread and brought its language throughout the Mediterranean area, students will see how Latin roots are used today and try forming their own words. By the end, students should be able to explain how Latin spread because the Roman Empire spread, and also explain how Latin roots are still persistent in academic and scientific language.
