About This Lesson
Part of the 2019 AFT TEACH Conference.
In the aftermath of school shootings across the country, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and too many other schools and institutions of higher education, the AFT has recommitted to fighting for measures to end gun violence in schools. The AFT National Gun Violence Prevention Committee, collectively with a group of national organizations, and state and union local affiliates, has actively worked to support students’ and survivors’ movements, and the efforts of those fighting for schools and communities that are free from gun violence. Join union leaders and members of the committee who are supporting community efforts after incidents of school-based gun violence and working to create safe and welcoming learning environments for all.
