About This Lesson

A fun iboard game that sets students the challenge of making 'space invaders' to a target total area. Manipulate a second frame to make a simple animated movement and then play your own version of the classic arcade game! Game options: 'Starter' uses only whole units and has areas of even numbers. 'Learner' has half-unit shapes but still asks for an even number area. 'Expert' includes odd number areas, forcing students to use half-unit shapes.Aligned to Common Core State Standard: 4.G.3

Standards

Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.

This is truly amazing! A game where pupils practise area and symmetry whilst making their own animated 'space invaders'. When they meet the target area, they are rewarded with a game that uses their animations!

An excellent resource! The children will love playing this. Not only does it teach symmetry brilliantly but the kids can also do some counting work as they score how well they do at shooting their own space invader! A game that can be used as a starter, main activity or wrap up!
