About This Lesson
This task has students use the sources provided (and a little Internet research) to write an essay about whether European explorers, conquerers, and colonizers were more motivated by gaining wealth or spreading Christianity. The last document is the task itself, and one of the documents is an outline for the students. Along with these, I used National Geographic's "Guns Germs, and Steel, Episode 2: Conquest" and the Middle Passage scene from Amistad.
