About This Lesson

This table includes research-based action steps that teachers can take to build relationships with students, particularly with those who may be struggling with school or other areas of life. It is based on the research of Marzano, 2007; Hamre & Pianta, 2006; Spiegel, 2012 and is reprinted from my books, Tools for Teaching Conceptual Understanding, 2017.

These action steps are well

These action steps are well-written and very doable. However, the photo used with this article is very inappropriate, especially for secondary students. It shows an appropriate hug from a parent but definitely not a teacher. And considering the title of the article, it is even more inappropriate.

Thanks for your feedback; we have changed the image to a teacher and not a parent.
