About This Lesson

Explore indigenous rights with this Thanksgiving video activity.

The typical Thanksgiving story involves a harmonious meeting between "Pilgrims" and "Indians." Unfortunately many details of the history of indigenous people are left out of U.S. History textbooks, particularly around the celebration of Thanksgiving. This activity will allow your students to discuss and debate the complex history between indigenous communities and the United States, its relationship to U.S. National Security and self-interest, and how these complexities connect to events happening today.
