About This Lesson
This unit plan includes 10 lesson plans on catching and throwing, taught to 2nd graders outdoors in PE. It will begin with underhand throw, progress to catching, then finish with overhand throw. It will cover the following California State Standards:
1.8 Throw a ball for distance, using proper form.
1.9 Catch a gently thrown ball above the waist, reducing the impact force.
1.10 Catch a gently thrown ball below the waist, reducing the impact force.
My objectives for this unit is for 2nd grade students to learn the proper form to throw underhand, overhand, and catch. Some materials that I will use are rag balls, foam dodgeballs, bouncy balls, foam footballs, cones, volleyball net, hula hoops, pool noodles. My Assessment strategy will be utilized through observation, as I will look for improvements in skills of underhand throw, over hand throw and catching. Once mastery is observed, I will move on to next lesson within unit. If mastery is not attained, I will add additional sessions as well as work with those students who need extra help with skills.
