About This Lesson
This is a type of activity that I've seen done before - students imagine they are either France, Britain, or the USA at the Treaty of Versailles negotiations. They each suggest their own criteria for what should happen to germany, then they vote as a class, then it is revealed to the students what actually happened, and finally, they decide if it was fair or not. The summative activity is having students respond to a letter written by the German representative at the Treaty. He talks about how the Treaty will detsroy Germany and that it is terrible. The students must respond to the letter and cite eveidence for why the Germans are wrong.
