About This Lesson

This section is the third type of trig we teach our students.  We named it "Type Three Trig" it is when we use the adjacent side length and the hypotenuse length to find the adjacent angle. It includes the instruction sheet we handout the first few assignments and one of our newest application assignments. Pythagorean's theorem is reveiwed in this lesson.

Standards

Use trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles in applied problems.
Understand and apply the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines to find unknown measurements in right and non-right triangles (e.g., surveying problems, resultant forces).
Understand that by similarity, side ratios in right triangles are properties of the angles in the triangle, leading to definitions of trigonometric ratios for acute angles.
Explain and use the relationship between the sine and cosine of complementary angles.
