About This Lesson

This NASA video segment explores the speed of sound. The segment is part of the NASA SCIFiles program, which features the Tree House Detectives, a group of young students who work together to solve everyday problems. In this segment the detectives visit an expert on sonic boom research and learn that sometimes airplanes travel faster than the speed of sound. This creates a tunnel of pressure known as a shock wave that results in a sonic boom.
